Set up your NESL Account
Welcome to New England Law | Boston! As a new member of our community, you will need to set up your account prior to accessing any of our systems. The set up includes changing your temporary password, downloading the Microsoft Authenticator App to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and selecting your security questions. You will need both a computer and phone for MFA set up.
Part I: Change Your Temporary Password
Step 1: Navigate to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info/password/change. Enter your NESL email address as the username, then click "Next".
Enter your temporary password and select "Sign in".
Step 2: Upon logging in you will be prompted to change your password. Enter your temporary password into the "Current password" field and a new password of your choice into the "New password" field. Confirm your new password, then click "Submit". Your password should be unique and include a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Never share your password with anyone.
Congratulations! You have successfully changed your password.
Part II: Set Up MFA
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) uses two different methods to verify your identity. When you log in to your NESL account off campus, you will be prompted to confirm your identity with MFA using the Microsoft Authenticator app. To complete this set of steps, you will need a Computer and a Mobile Phone.
Step 1: While still logged in to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info, select "Add sign-in method"
Step 2: Select "Microsoft Authenticator" from the menu.
Step 3: Use your mobile device for this step. In the App Store or the Google Play Store, search "Microsoft Authenticator" and follow the prompts to download the app on your mobile device.
Step 4: Use your computer for this step. Once you have the Microsoft Authenticator app downloaded on your phone, select "Next" on your computer.
Step 5: Use your computer for this step. Select "Next" to continue set up.
Step 6: Use your mobile device for this step. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app and select the "+" icon in the upper right to add a new account.
Step 7: Select "Work or school account".
Step 8: Use your mobile device and computer for this step. On your mobile device select "Scan QR code".
On your computer you will see the QR code, use your mobile device to scan this code and connect your Microsoft Authenticator app to your NESL account. After scanning the QR code, select "Next".
Step 9: Use your mobile device and computer for this step. On your computer you will see a number, which you will enter into the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. The number will be randomly generated each time you attempt to access your account. In this example, the number is 23.
Enter that code that appears on the computer, for example 23, in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device, then select "Yes" to confirm.
Step 10: Use the computer for this step. Select "Next". Congratulations, you have successfully set up MFA! You will now see an option to add a phone number, this step is optional.
Part II: Set Up Your Security Questions
Step 1: While still logged in to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info, select "Add sign-in method"
Step 2: Select "Security Questions" from the menu.
Step 3: Use the dropdown menus to select your security questions and enter your answers, then select "Done".
