Customizing your Canvas Dashboard
By default, your Canvas Dashboard will be in the Card View, which shows quick links to up to 20 courses that you're enrolled in (either as a Teacher, Student, or other role). Depending on your role, Canvas also offers additional options for what content is displayed on your Dashboard and you can switch between them easily using the three vertical dots to the right of the Dashboard heading.

-
Card View: The default Card View shows the same courses that you would see by clicking the Courses menu in the leftmost global navigation menu.
-
List View:This view shows an agenda of upcoming to-dos and items with due dates.
- This option may be absent if you aren't a student in any courses.
-
Note: If you are a student in a course, you should still check your individual courses using the Courses menu for upcoming assignments. Assignments without due dates associated with them may not appear in the List View as expected.
-
Recent Activity: This view shows an overview of the recent changes and updates across all your courses.
Manually choose which courses display on your Dashboard
The Card View of the Dashboard only displays up to 20 courses. If you are enrolled in more courses than this (including older enrollments), the Card View will prioritize the 20 most recently added courses. This will be the same list of courses that you will see in the Courses menu in the global navigation.
If you would like to choose the specific courses that will show on the Dashboard when using the Card View, you can do so by managing your course favorites on the All Courses page (see Viewing all your courses in Canvas for instructions on how to access and use this page).
In your full list of courses, click the star in the "Favorite" column to favorite or unfavorite a course. A filled in star indicates the course is favorited while a star that's just an outline means a course isn't favorited.

Notes on favoriting courses:
- Once you've favorited a course, it will not be automatically unfavorited after the semester ends. To remove an old course from the Dashboard, you'll need to go back to the All Courses page and unfavorite it.
- Once at least one course has been favorited, new active enrollments will be favorited automatically. If you can't find a course for this or the next semester, check your All Courses page to see if there's a reason it can't be favorited.
- Students: you won't be able to favorite a course that's still unpublished. Unpublished courses will still be listed in your All Courses page and should be favorited automatically once the course is published.
