Understanding the Assignments Index page
In your Canvas course, click "Assignments" from the course navigation menu to access the Assignments Index page. Note: if you're a student and you don't see this in the course navigation, your professor may have turned off access to the Assignments Index page. You will still be able to access your assignments in other parts of the course and we recommend checking with your professor on how the Canvas site is being used.
On the Assignments Index page, you'll see search options at the top, followed by the list of assignments in the course. By default, students will see assignments sorted by date and faculty will see assignments sorted into any assignment groups created in the course. If no groups have been created, faculty will see all assignments listed in a single group called "Assignments".
Any item in Canvas that will be graded is listed in the Assignments Index page, including quizzes and graded discussions that were created in the Quizzes or Discussions pages of the course, respectively. Canvas provides a visual indication of the type of graded item to the left of the item's name. In the example image below, the icons indicate these items are an assignment, graded discussion, new quiz, and classic quiz in order from top to bottom.

If you're navigating Canvas with a screen reader, there may be a structural element indicating the item type instead.
