Using Microsoft Teams with an online class in Canvas
While Zoom is the preferred way to schedule asynchronous class meetings through Canvas, Microsoft Teams can be used as an alternative video conferencing platform.
Schedule a Microsoft Teams meeting with your students (Faculty)
- In Canvas, navigate to your Course and click "Grades" in the course navigation.
- In the upper-right, click "Export", then "Export Entire Gradebook".
- When the export has finished, you should be prompted to download the csv file.
- Open the downloaded file and expand the size of the columns as needed. Under the column header "SIS Login ID", select the list of your students' email addresses.
- Copy the list you've selected.
- Open your nesl.edu email inbox either in your web browser at NELB Mail or in the Outlook desktop app.
- Click "Calendar" from the Outlook left navigation menu.
- Click the "New event" button towards the top left.
- In the new window that opens, give your meeting a title that's clear to you and your students and adjust the date and time to your scheduled class time.
- In the "Invite attendees" field, paste the list of emails you copied from the Canvas gradebook report earlier.
- Ensure that the Teams meeting icon is toggled to on.
- Add any other meeting details that you need, then click Send to invite your class.
- Once the meeting is created, you should see it in your Outlook calendar. Click the newly scheduled meeting to see the option to Join the meeting. Click the down arrow next to Join, then "Copy join link". In Canvas, send the link to your students in an announcement to ensure that they've seen it.
