Changing your course home page
Have you taught at NELB before?
Start by importing the content from your previous course. Importing all content from a past course will also copy course settings like the home page. You can still update the home page further after importing.
Using the NELB template home page
- In the Canvas course you want to update, click "Pages" in the course navigation to access the list of pages in your course.
- If you've imported from a past course, you may see a single page's content instead of a list of pages. Click "View All Pages" to continue.
- In the list of pages, look for the unpublished "NELB Sample Homepage". Click the three dots to the right of the page status, then choose "Edit" from the menu that appears.

- If you don't see this page listed, you may be working in an older Canvas site or the template content may not have copied correctly. Please submit a ticket for assistance adding the template to your course.
- Edit the contents of the template page as needed, then publish the page once you're done.
- After the page is published, return to the list of all pages. Click the three dots again and choose "Use as Front Page" from the menu.
- Click "Home" in the course navigation.
- On the right side of the screen, click "Choose Home Page".

-
Note: If you're accessing Canvas on a small screen or with magnification, the buttons on the right may appear at the bottom of the page instead.
- Click the circle to the left of "Pages Front Page" in the new menu that opens.
- Click "Save".
Other home page options
If you want your students to focus on different content when they visit the home page of your course, Canvas offers several other options for the layout of the course home page.
You can read more about each of the other home page options in the following guides from Canvas:
