Reporting Suspicious Emails from Outlook
Note: The instructions below highlight some differences between different versions of Outlook. If you need assistance determining which version of Outlook you're using, please see Microsoft's What version of Outlook do I have? guide.
Suspicious email messages may sometimes be difficult to spot. If you believe an email message you've received isn't legitimate, please follow the instructions below to report it. If you believe you may have already opened a link or attachment from a suspicious email message, please submit a ticket for assistance as soon as possible.
- Open either the Outlook desktop application or use your browser of choice to open Outlook Web.
- Select the message that you'd like to report. This will open the read message pane.
- Depending on which version of Outlook you're using, the option to report the email may look different. Follow the instructions below for your version of Outlook:
-
Classic Outlook: Find and click the "Report Email" button at the top of the window.
-
New Outlook and Outlook Web: There are two different ribbon styles; classic ribbon is larger and includes application names while the simplified ribbon is smaller and doesn't include names. Both ribbons will show the same app icon for the Barracuda Email Protection Add-in.
-
Classic ribbon: Look for the blue square with white fins icon in the section labeled Add-ins. "Barracuda Email Protection" will be visible underneath.
-
Simplified Ribbon: Look for the blue square with white fins icon. When you hover your cursor over this icon, you will see "Barracuda Email Protection Add-in" and will describe the add-in's usage.
- Depending on the size of your screen, you may not see this icon right away. If the icon is not visible, click the three dots at right, then select the Barracuda Email Protection under Add-ins.
- In all versions of Outlook, the Report email screen will open. Click the Report email button.

- Report email will change to "Successfully reported" and a thank you message. The reported message will be moved to Deleted Items and the Add-in app will close.

- In your default browser, a new window or tab will open with a feedback form for you to fill out.
- Select the reason that best describes why you've reported the email.
- If you would like to receive feedback regarding this submission to Barracuda Networks, click to check the box at the bottom.
- Click Submit. You will see a confirmation thanking you for your feedback. You may close the browser tab or window.
