Faculty: Manually adjusting attendance statuses for your class
- Open your Canvas course in your web browser of choice or the Canvas Teacher mobile app.
- In the course navigation menu, click Attendance.
- If this is the first time you've opened the Attendance tool, you may be prompted to authorize your account so that Canvas and aPlus+ Attendance / Attend HE can talk to each other. Click Authorize to continue.
- If your browser's security settings are strict, you may see a screen that says "One more step". Click the button that says "Click here to continue" to launch the Attendance tool in a new window. All other screens should look and function the same as the Canvas instructions below.
- By default, aPlus+ Attendance will display a table of your students and any attendance statuses entered for the current week. If you see a different page in the Attendance tool, click Students in the Attendance navigation.
- Click the date and time of the class session you want to enter attendance for above the table with your students' information.
- The next page will show more detailed session information as well as show a list of your students. If you're using attendance codes and are correcting the attendance for one or more of your students, then there may already be attendance statuses listed for some of your students. If you're using paper attendance instead of an attendance code, then the statuses may be blank for all your students.
Tip: Did your class take place over Zoom using your nesl.edu Zoom account? Click the Zoom Connection button above the list of your students and follow the instructions in Recording attendance using the Zoom integration to sync your attendance automatically.
Adjust the attendance status for one or more student
- Scroll down the attendance list until you see the student whose attendance you'd like to adjust.
- Click the dropdown list next to that student's name and select the status you'd like to apply for them.
- You can enter a comment for the student's attendance by clicking "Comment" to the right of their name.
- Click Save at the top of the page to apply the changes you've made.
Enter the same attendance status for all your students
- Click the dropdown list that says "Fill blanks & no data".
- Choose the correct status to be applied. Depending on your role in Canvas, you may not see all of the statuses in the below screenshot.
- You can enter a comment that will be applied to all your students using the "Add session comment" box.
- Click Save to apply the chosen attendance status and comment to all your students.
