Off campus access to Microsoft 365
Microsoft 365 provides access to a suite of powerful Microsoft applications through your web browser. As long as you have an active internet connection, most tasks can be completed using Microsoft 365 online without downloading additional applications or connecting to a remote file server.
Unless otherwise noted below, use of the web applications of Microsoft 365, such as OneDrive, does not change whether you're on campus or off campus.
OneDrive
- Access to OneDrive through your web browser is not impacted by connecting from off campus.
- If you're using a NELB-issued device, then you will still be able to access your OneDrive files through your File Explorer the same way as on campus.
SharePoint
Departmental SharePoint sites have some restrictions when accessed off campus and can only be accessed through a web browser.
- When you login to SharePoint through your web browser, you may be required to confirm your identity through Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
- If you will be traveling off campus and have not yet set up MFA for your account, please follow the instructions in the following guide before you leave campus: Set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
- You may be directed to a message that says "Access to Microsoft SharePoint Online is monitored". This does not mean that NELB staff will be watching your activity; it refers to security restrictions that help to protect sensitive data at our college.

- To prevent this message from appearing again for one week, check the box next to "Hide this notification for all apps for one week." before you continue.
- Click "Continue to Microsoft SharePoint Online" to continue to your SharePoint site.
- When navigating the files on your departmental SharePoint site from off campus, you will be unable to download any files to the machine you're using. You can still open any documents in their corresponding Office 365 application on the web as usual.
