Using images in Communities (Engage)
Each post in Communities (Viva Engage) can have a maximum of 100 files attached to it, including pdfs, images, video files, and more. You may encounter an error if the file you attempt to attach to your post is larger than 15GB in size.
Posting an image in a Community post or reply
While drafting a post or reply you will have the option to add media using the "Add images or videos" button below the text editor.
Posting an image to your Storyline
When you add an image to a Discussion post on your individual Storyline, you may be prompted to choose whether you want your text to be above or below your image.
Viva Engage will automatically suggest a layout for your post based on the following guidelines:
- When the text is 200 characters or less, the video or image will be above the post by default.
- When the text is more than 200 characters, the text will appear above the video or image by default.
- If there is no text in the post, the video or image will be displayed with the new experience. You will not be prompted to choose a layout.
Adding Alt text to an image in a community or storyline post
Alt text helps those who view your community using assistive technology like a screen reader and those viewing your content on slow connections to understand your image without being able to see it.
- When you add an image to a post in a community or on your Storyline, hover over the image and click the Edit pencil towards the top right corner of the image.
- A small box will appear for you to enter your alt text. There isn't a separate save button or confirmation that the alt text has been added, so you can continue drafting your post.
Tip: Try to write alt text that conveys the important information that someone who sees the image visually would get from it. If an image contains a large amount of text, you may want to provide an additional text alternative, such as pasting text in the post itself or attaching a Word document with the text in it.
Community cover photo and icon
Community admins can upload a cover photo and icon for your community using the web or mobile app versions of Viva Engage. For best results, follow the image sizes and formats below:
- Cover photos:

Dimensions: 1400 x 524 or 700 x 262 pixels

File Size: 20 MB or less

File type: PNG, JPEG, or non-animated GIF format
- Community icon / logo:
- Use a square image that looks good when resized to 72 x 72 pixels
Tip: use images that are easy to see and read at different sizes since images may appear smaller on mobile devices.
Storyline cover photo
You can upload a cover photo for your individual Storyline page. The suggested image guidelines are below:

Dimensions: 680 pixels by 275 pixels (if your image is larger, it will be scaled to fit automatically)
