Accessing your files on OneDrive
OneDrive is part of the Microsoft 365 suite of applications accessible with your NELB account. Whether you're on or off campus, you'll be able to open, edit, or share any of the course or research materials you've saved to OneDrive on any device.
Using the web version of OneDrive
- In your web browser of choice, navigate to the web version of OneDrive.
-
Note: the URL for OneDrive in the address bar will contain the word "SharePoint". OneDrive and SharePoint are both Microsoft 365 applications and are linked together on the backend. As long as you see OneDrive in the navigation bar, you're in the correct application even if the URL contains "SharePoint".
- If you're already logged into your NELB email in your web browser, you can also open OneDrive by following the instructions in our Switching between Microsoft 365 applications guide.
- If prompted, log in to your NELB account using your NELB email address and password. This should be the same login information you use for your email and Canvas. If you're already logged in to other NELB applications in your browser, you may not be prompted to log in again.
- You should be taken to the OneDrive Home page, which will display suggestions for common and recent files you've used. Click My files to open the list of files and folders you've uploaded to OneDrive.
Using OneDrive file sync in the Windows File Explorer
If you are using an NELB owned computer and logging in with your username and password, you may already be signed into OneDrive through your computer's file explorer. If you're using a personal computer, these instructions may not work for you.
- Open the File Explorer from the taskbar on your NELB owned computer.

-
Note: your taskbar may look different depending on what applications you use and what settings you've chosen. The File Explorer icon will appear as a yellow folder with a blue tab at the bottom by default. If you don't see it on your taskbar, you can also search for it in the Windows start menu.
- To learn more about how to open and use the File Explorer, please see Microsoft's File Explorer in Windows guide.
- In the list of folders and other file locations on the left, look for the OneDrive cloud icon next to text that says "[Your name] - New England Law | Boston". If you've previously pinned OneDrive to the Quick Access list in your File Explorer, you may see a second listing of OneDrive further down the list of locations. Either one will get you to your OneDrive files and folders.

- Depending on your version of OneDrive sync, this may also say "OneDrive - New England Law Boston" instead of having your name. You may be prompted to sign in to OneDrive using your NELB email address and password to finish setting up your OneDrive sync.
- If you'd like to pin OneDrive to Quick access for the future, right-click on "[Your name] - New England Law | Boston" and select "Pin to Quick access" from the menu.
- Click the OneDrive file location from Step 2 or click the arrow to the left of "[Your name] - New England Law | Boston" to expand the list of folders you have in your OneDrive and click on a specific folder.
- All of the folders and files you have saved to OneDrive should be listed. If not, please submit a ticket for assistance or review the troubleshooting tips below.
Troubleshooting
- If you're using an NELB owned computer, but your OneDrive files aren't listed:
- Make sure you're logged into the computer with your own NELB account. Logging in through a web browser on a shared computer won't give you the same level of access to your files through File Explorer. This keeps your files safe and ensures that others who use the machine won't be able to access your files.
- Check for a greyed out OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area of your taskbar. Click that or follow the sign in instructions in Microsoft's Sync files with OneDrive in Windows guide to finish setting up OneDrive and sync your files.
- If you're unable to see the list of file locations on the left side of the File Explorer:

- Click View from the command bar above your list of files.
- In the View menu, click Show at the bottom.
- Click Navigation pane to show the list of folders and file locations on the left side of the window.
- Encountering a different issue with OneDrive in the File Explorer? Try looking for the error you're seeing in Microsoft's Fix OneDrive sync problems guide or submit a ticket for assistance.
